What's next

Functions of ISPF, SDSF, IDz and the related z/OS products that the Mainframe module does not do yet, grouped by area.

These functions are not built yet. Until they are, the vendor tool remains the way to do them. Where noted, the vendor's own screen is reachable today in the Editor's 3270 session, which is the vendor's panel running in the Editor, not a native replacement.

Connection and authentication

  • Client certificates from the system keychain (certAccount), and the passwords and tokens Zowe keeps in the system keychain.
  • Bearer tokens for z/OSMF.
  • Kerberos, NTLM and SOCKS proxies.
  • Group policy entries for the module's machine settings.

Data sets and the ISPF editor

  • Member locking: the ISPF ENQ held while a member is edited, through z/OSMF's ENQ headers.
  • Reset ISPF statistics (ISPF 3.5).
  • SuperC and SuperCE (ISPF 3.12 and 3.13) run as a job, for shops that keep their listings; SuperC's prefix and suffix search options.
  • ISPF's table utility (3.16), LM facility (option 8) and Dialog Test (option 7). Interim: the 3270 session.
  • Formatted data and DBCS code pages in the record and text editors (ISPF 3.11).
  • ISPF edit macros (REXX and CLIST macros through ISREDIT), run on z/OS against the member.
  • HEX DATA in the ISPF hexadecimal display.
  • An opt-in, encrypted local recovery of unsaved z/OS edits after a crash (today they are kept out of backups by design).
  • chmod on z/OS UNIX files.
  • Copy between systems, and moving whole data sets (ISPF 3.3 move).
  • A z/OS UNIX shell over SSH. Interim: OMVS in the 3270 session.

VSAM and File Manager

  • Alternate indexes and paths on z/OS.
  • Deleting single records from a NOREUSE cluster; spanned records over 32,752 bytes.
  • File Manager's in-place edit of a cluster.
  • Import of File Manager TDF template members.
  • File Manager's Db2 and IMS components (browse and edit tables and segments).

Jobs and SDSF

  • SDSF's X action: print output to a named printer.
  • Arranging and locking columns on SDSF panels.

Projects, build and languages

  • Import of IDz property groups exported from Eclipse into mainframe.json and ZAPP.
  • Import of IDz workspace preferences.
  • Preprocessor support (ZAPP preprocessor profiles, locally and on z/OS).
  • DBB 3's zBuilder (dbb build) user builds, and error feedback through --errPrefix data sets.
  • Load module analysis (IDz Load Module Analyzer): CSECTs, compile dates and options.
  • The BMS map editor.
  • Evaluating PL/I preprocessor statements; reading HLASM's ICTL.
  • In the application map: online resources (CSD, PSB, MQ), Control-M calendars and times, and CA 7 requirements other than triggers.

Debugging, testing and fault analysis

  • Step-by-step debugging of a program on z/OS inside the Editor's own debugger (z/OS Debugger's Remote Debug Service, Broadcom InterTest and Debugger for Mainframe). This waits on the vendors' protocol specifications. Interim: batch mode, and full-screen mode in the 3270 session.
  • Code coverage with z/OS Debugger.
  • IBM zUnit: test case generation, the test runner, recording and playback.
  • Functional tests with Galasa.
  • Fault Analyzer: fault history, reports, interactive reanalysis, and the CEEDUMP traceback.

Change management

  • Endevor: package actions, delete element, actions on several elements at once, move options, processor group overrides, and client certificates and API Mediation Layer tokens for Endevor.
  • ChangeMan ZMF.
  • SCLM.

CICS, IMS and Db2

  • CICS: tasks, pipelines, URI maps, web services, JVM servers, bundles, TCP/IP services and CSD definitions; client certificates and API Mediation Layer tokens for CMCI.
  • Running a CICS or IMS transaction as a native view. Interim: the 3270 session.
  • IMS: the MFS editor, PSB and DBD, IMS transactions and resources. Interim: the 3270 session.
  • Db2: an SQL editor with results and explain (Data Studio, SPUFI and DB2I).
  • Db2: standalone BIND, REBIND and FREE PACKAGE, and DCLGEN.

System programming

  • SMP/E, run through its batch program with its reports read natively. Interim: the 3270 session.
  • The site's own ISPF dialogs (option 13). Interim: the 3270 session.
