Verification state: modelled. On the real DeltaV 14.5.1 export: 848 alarms read in about 0.5 s, 6 priorities, 327 disabled, 23 alarm types; enabling one disabled alarm changed exactly one character of the 25 MB text. The meaning of each field is read from its name and values in that export, not from Emerson's books. Whether DeltaV imports an export edited here is not known. Not seen in the running Editor; not on Windows.
Open the alarms
Run Open Alarms on the export in the active editor, or on an export in the DeltaV Plant view. A DeltaV Alarms tab lists every alarm of the export's modules, module instances and module classes:
| Column | From the export |
|---|---|
| Module or class | The owner |
| Type | ATYP |
| Priority | PRIORITY_NAME |
| Enabled | ENAB (and inverted, INV) |
| Watched parameter | ALMATTR |
| Limit | The value of the parameter LIMATTR names |
| Suppression timeout | SUPPTIMEOUT |
| Description | The alarm's description |
Counts are shown at the top. Type in the filter, or tick Disabled only. The table follows the text.
Limits
An alarm's limit is read from its owner. An instance's alarm, which writes only what it overrides, takes LIMATTR from the class's alarm of the same name, and reads the limit under its own path or under the name its class exposes it by (such as AI1$HI_LIM). A limit the instance takes from its class shows "(class)" and is not editable. Limits DeltaV takes from a block's default are not in the export and are not shown.
Edit an alarm
- Find the alarm with the filter or Disabled only.
- Change its priority (from the priorities the export uses), its enabled box, its suppression timeout or, where the owner writes it, its limit (a number only).
- The export's tab shows unsaved changes; only that value changed. Edit > Undo in the export's tab restores it, and the table follows.
- Save the export. The save guard checks the save.
A value the field cannot hold is refused with a message, and a field the export does not write is never added. Each edit is logged to Output > DCS. The rules every edit follows are on Save an edited export and import it.
Alarm limits out of order and limits outside their scale are checks in Problems.
