The Energy module is for protection and substation automation engineers who work with IEC 61850. In the Editor it reads, checks, edits and compares a station's SCL files from IEC 61850-6, prepares the files that go to site, browses IEDs online over MMS, reads their disturbance records and event logs, decodes GOOSE and Sampled Values, and reads COMTRADE disturbance records. Relay vendor tools are detected on Windows, and Hitachi Energy PCM600 is driven through its command line. For a short summary of every domain module, see Domain modules.
Verification state: read this first
The module is pre-release and stays behind the setting neuralInverse.energy.enabled, off by default.
In one line: verified on 292 public SCL files; online MMS verified against open-source IEC 61850 servers (libiec61850) on Linux; not run against any relay or vendor tool; nothing on Windows.
- Verified on public files. 292 SCL files from 16 public repositories (among them Hitachi Energy PCM600 and Siemens IEC 61850 System Configurator exports, up to 2.8 MB and 117 IEDs): the SCL reader and index, reference resolution, schema validation (the module's verdict equals xmllint's on the 281 files of a known edition), the 24 checks, text edits such as Rename IED, data flow reading and CID preparation.
- Verified against open-source IEC 61850 servers on Linux. The libiec61850 1.6.2 example servers, with tshark as a second decoder: online browse, read and reports over MMS, MMS over TLS, disturbance record and event log retrieval, and the read-only commissioning view.
- Checked against independent readers. The COMTRADE reader and writer against python-comtrade; the GOOSE and Sampled Values decoder against tshark; live capture with dumpcap on a test link.
- Everything else is modelled: built and tested on files and test peers written for the purpose.
- Not run against any relay, any relay vendor tool or any test set. No customer project has been opened. Nothing has run on Windows. The module's editors have been tested in automated Electron tests; an engineer has not yet tried them in the running Editor.
| State | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Modelled | Built and tested on files and peers written for the purpose, not against the vendor tool or a relay |
| Kit shipped | As modelled, and a verification kit runs it on the real vendor tool; waiting for its report |
| Verified | For the module's own readers: checked on files a vendor tool wrote or a vendor published, against an independent implementation. For online access: run against an IEC 61850 server, with versions and operating system recorded |
| Verified by a customer | Run by a customer's engineer on their own project |
Each page of this section states the state of what it describes. Use test relays or test servers on a test network only, never a relay in service. Online access reads; the only writes to an IED are report control block attributes and, when you turn it on, deleting files on the IED, and an engineer confirms every one of them.

Functions of the relay vendor tools the module does not cover yet are listed on What's next.
How the module runs
- Behind a setting, in a trusted workspace. Nothing of the module runs until
neuralInverse.energy.enabledis on, and it runs only in a trusted workspace. See Set up. - Its own readers and protocol client. The SCL reader, the schema validator, the COMTRADE reader and writer, the GOOSE and Sampled Values decoder and the MMS client (with TLS) are the module's own code. No GPL code is shipped, and nothing is fetched at run time.
- Your tools as separate processes. PCM600's command line, Wireshark's dumpcap and the registry reader run as separate processes with your own rights. The Editor never installs a driver.
- Your copy of the IEC schema. The IEC 61850-6 SCL schema is not shipped; schema validation uses your copy.
- Every change and connection is put to you. Edits are one Undo step and are not saved for you; writes to an IED and agent actions are confirmed. See Approvals and the Energy log.
